Tower - Flight Operations Control: Typical screen view

Daily Plan

The central window in this application is the Daily plan. It displays the last flight plan for a selected fleet combined with actual data. Both types of data are displayed side by side to be compared easily. The content of this window stretches throughout the flight season and can be scrolled continuously.

The left part of the window contains buttons marked with aircraft registrations that designate the corresponding rows. Flights are represented in the form of rectangles containing flight number and airport codes. While the planned flights are represented as framed, the actual ones appear as filled rectangles. The code of the commander and the number of crew members can also be displayed above each flight.

Objects can be selected with the mouse and moved in groups or individually. A click on the object brings up the Flight edit dialog, while a click on the left side button brings up a list of all flights displayed in the row.

The user can insert or modify information on actual legs, flight and block times, passenger and cargo load, eventual delays, cabin and cockpit crew, used and uplifted fuel data, and additional notes.

Ad-hoc crew pairings can be performed by a simple drag & drop operation of selected flight groups into the Orders view. In the newly created flight order the user can then insert or modify information on cabin and cockpit crew, reporting times, positioning times as well as any training to be performed on duty together with check codes and specification of trainees and their instructors.

Active Crew Members

Flight dispatchers can monitor crew members assigned to duties on the current day via two special windows.

The first is the Reporting list with all flight orders and corresponding crew members, sorted by time. The second is the Standby list that specifies reserve crew members by their functions.

The lists are linked to the personal information dialog to provide quick and detailed information on the selected crew members. This connection also includes a possibility to make urgent phone calls with a simple click on the button.

Both lists can also be printed should check-in signatures be necessary.

Messaging System

The system is connected to the SITA messaging system thus enabling continuous reception, data recognition and management of movement and load messages from the airports. The ACARS system is also supported which provides the system with movement messages from the aircraft as well as with text messages from the cockpit.

All incoming messages are immediately parsed and checked, while the corresponding data is automatically updated and refreshed. Not only the staff in the operations control, but also all other users of various applications from the Caspis Airline Suite are promptly acquainted with the most current condition of operations.

Reports

The results of this processing are reported also in the Reports window, where all messages are sorted by date, aircraft, types and times of their reception. The user can also browse through received messages in their original format.

The same window also enables access to other reports such as the Daily plan, Daily program, Reporting and Standby list.

Journey Log

As data of the actual operation is already updated automatically during the operation itself, the staff in the operations control has not much left to do. When the flight crew return from their duty they can check their Journey Log report, correct data mismatch, if any, add missing data, and declare the flight completed.

With the present trend towards "paperless cockpit" this process can be even further automated and simplified. The crew can get their flight order uploaded on their on-board tablet PC before duty and make all necessary inputs using a special application instead of a standard paper form.

When the crew return from their duty data is synchronized with the main system no further manual intervention being necessary.
